Chicago 9 Rhythm & Blues Band

Thank you Serita for your humbling comments.

We love & enjoy what we do & If our performance reflects that then that's a job well done. We hope to see you at a gig soon.

And I have to say, I've seen Canned Heat doing 'On the Road Again' live, and Chicago 9 do it better.

Chicago 9 played a storming set to open day two of the Newbury Jazz ...& Blues Festival. No better way to get the show moving. Thanks guys - you enthused the audience and made my job much easier.

Jeff Colmer :- We enjoyed some amazing gigs at this year's Swanage festival but among the very best was Chicago 9 at the Anchor. What a fantastic afternoon of quality music that had the pub practically creaking as people danced throughout to the sounds. Great atmosphere, great music and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Thanks to all who made this one so special?

I love that track "Stop Breaking Down" i'd buy that ---Phil Nunn Photography

?You have to go a long way and pay a lot of hard earned dosh to see a band as good as this. The Chicago 9 Blues Band played to a packed out Woodman Pub in Lower Upham tonight. Not only were we treated to some awesome rhythm 'n' blues but also had the added bonus of Steve Brookes singing (guest vocals) on T Bone Shuffle... what an Awesome Outfit !!! ---Dave Holmes live music fan. ?

Blues Matters Magazine (Matt Merrit)

Traditionally there's not much love lost between Portsmouth and Southampton, rivalry fuelled by football and their roles as the south coasts premier ports for the military and shipping respectively. Through the years the rivalry has veered from violent to friendly teasing and back again. So it's with that background that this Portsmouth born lad reviews Southampton's Chicago 9. Tempting though it would be to rib the band in print, if only in friendly fashion, I have to say that this is a cracking little CD, with a great mix of original tracks and a few interesting covers ('Riding On The L&N', as made famous by Dr Feelgood, throbs with energy here). Vocals are shared between songwriters Mark Nolan and Ian Mitchell, the former on guitar too and the latter chipping in with some great harmonica parts, and rhythm section Melvyn Lockyer (bass) and drummer Elrad Matthews lock the band into a tight groove, perfect for toe tapping appreciation. I was looking forward to making a joke at the end of this review, but the egg is firmly on my face… these guys are too damn good!
